Kenya's Environmental Actions: Big Moves, Bigger conservation

Kenya remains a trailblazer in environmental protection, but recent events show we still need everyone’s voice at the table.

This July, the Ministry of Environment withdrew the 2025 Environmental Management and Coordination Regulations after major public outcry. Kenyans demanded more transparency, consultation, and participation in our environmental laws. It’s a reminder - real change can only happen if citizens, experts, and government work together.

Meanwhile, Kenya is setting bold goals: cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2035 and making clean, renewable energy accessible for all. The new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules now require companies to manage waste from the products they sell, which should boost recycling and accountability across industries.

Our fight against single-use plastics continues, and while Kenya’s bans are inspiring, stronger enforcement is needed to truly beat plastic pollution.

One thing is clear—every Kenyan can make a difference. Whether it’s making your voice heard on new laws, living greener, or holding leaders accountable, our environment needs all of us.
